    card reader questions

Newbie here. I was given an Olympus D-220L, and run WinXP. The D-220L uses
    a removeable memory card.

The camera comes with a cable for uploading digi pics. The cable has a
very small plug on one end, and a 9 pin D ring plug on the other.

A problem is I have no unused 9 pin D ring ports available on my pc.

So, I got a card reader from Radio Shack which has a USB plug on it. I have
    several unused USB ports.

Question: to use the card reader, do I need any software for uploading digi
pics? The card reader didn't come with any. Or does it just somehow know
what to do with the ones it transfers to my pc?

    Re: card reader questions

If you are running XP, you should be able to simply plug in the card reader to a USB port, and you should see one, or more, "drives" appear in the Windows Explorer. You can then simply copy files to and from and inserted media card.
