    calibrating etc.

I just went to Nikon school this month and took the 201 Digital Workflow class. What I found interesting was when they suggested to hardware calibrate your monitor and not bother with the printer provided that you stuck with the factory printer profiles. What do the rest of you think of that suggestion? How close to the mark is the advice?

I pretty much agree. The way I feel about it is that if it ain't broke don't fix it. Keep everything as simple as possible. Don't buy stuff that you don't even know you actually need or not.

However, for some people in some situations, the default profile isn't going to satisfy them.

I went to that seminar a year and a half ago, but it took me until this last spring to get a monitor calibration package (Monaco Optix XR). It's made a huge improvement, easily 90% of the problem solved.

I just got the same package and am interested to see the difference from monitor to print.
