    Adobe upgrades

can you upgrade from any generation to the latest? i.e. CS1 to CS3? or PSE3 to PSE6?

Yes, Adobe almost always has an upgrade option when it releases an updated version of a program. According to Adobe's website you can upgrade to CS3 from PS 7, CS and CS2 for $199.

You can also upgrade from Elements to CS3. I would imagine you could upgrade to a newer version of elements as well.

that's cool. seems if you get a cheaper, older copy of PS7 or CS, then upgrade, it could save you a few bucks.

If you know any college students, see if they can buy the program for you. My wife got me the full CS3 Extended version (not an upgrade) for $200 with her student discount.

Yes! Educational discounts are well worth it (especially with adobe products). Upgrades are worth it but keep in mind that your software can be rendered worthless if you lose your old license key.

is there any difference between these "academic" versions and anything else? seems like some sellers-ebay, CL- are making a point that what they are selling is not the "academic" version, as if it's a lesser version. i'm assuming the "academic" version is the kind bought at the local edu.

There is NO difference in the functionality of the academic program and the regular program. I think there may be a difference in the licensing terms of the program, but the functionality is exactly the same.

For adobe software, academic versions are identical to the retail.
