1TB mirrored array for less than $1000...

Looks like Hitachi finally got their 1TB drive out the door.

Two of those puppies and a RAID card and you've got a pretty good image storage system.

It's only a matter of time until Seagate and the rest follow suit.

Next time I fill up a drive, I was going to buy a dedicated backup machine with hot-swappable drives. But this looks easier. My mother board already supports RAID...

It's much easier if you're comfortable installing the drives. If you want hotswap, you can do that too... http://www.3ware.com/products/ata.asp

There are internal "hot swap" bays out there as well.

I wouldn't buy one just yet. Like Vista, this is going to be one of those technologies that you'll want to wait on for a couple of months.

Re: 1TB mirrored array for less than $1000...

I just ordered my RAID 5 system.
Yes, of course I'll review it when it arrives ...

4x 750G should give me about 2TB gf usable storage.
Enough for this year I hope

I would not want to put all my data in a mirrored arrangement, I want more protection.
I don't want it in my PC, I'll settle for gigabit ethernet to have the access flexibility.

Don't mention Vista unless you also use the words "not ready", "forced downgrade", "incompatible" and "Micro$oft" in the same sentence.
    I hate it.
