    Wraith has herpes

I'll be honest, I originally thought it had said wrath but I was mistakened. Still kinda neet. From the downtown shoot I did this afternoon. Yes? No?

Again----great DOF. Colors are bright, and crop is tight.

    Hey Jared,

I too like the DOF on this shot from the text to the BG, but I don't like the OOF area in the FG. I would like to see the text sitting closer to the bottom of the image, with more OOF city in the BG. I'm at work and this monitor SUCKS so I don't feel comfortable commenting on anything else. Everything looks dark to me, but I'm sure it's the monitor and not the exposure.

    Re: Wraith has herpes

Well seen and documented Jared! I personally like a bit of OOF area at the front of an image like this. The only thing I would change is something that you probably couldn't do. I would like to see less street. Maybe you could shoot at a more extreme angle and get less street and more colorful building? The other option would be to have someone park a colorful car across the street (as opposed to on the side street) so it provides a bit more back ground color (though I'm sure it is a no parking zone and you would have to bend legality to do it! )

    Re: Wraith has herpes

    Michael,

Would cropping off the bottom of the post so the text was right near the bottom work? Or would you want it reshot with more OOF? Thanks for the comments Michael, and nobody else has commented on the brightness (yet atleast) so I'll presume it's your monitor.

    Thanks again.

Marty, It's funny you mentioned the street thing...I did that on purpose to avoid the background being too busy! It was hard to include more of the "buildings" per se. But that being said, if the road was busy with vehicle would that of worked better? I'm not sure about vehicles parking there, but the road gets used quite a bit earlier in the day if I remember correctly...maybe I'll try that out!.

    Thanks again guys.

    Re: Wraith has herpes

I like this alot. I am a bit confused by what the words mean.....but I feel the need to have a bit of sympathy for whoever "Wraith" is. LOL
I like the simple yet interesting bg. and I can see where cropping the image to where the words were a little lower, not quite to the bottom of the image would make them more pronounced.
    Good Job Jared!

    Re: Wraith has herpes

I'm not sure a colorful BG would be better. The red car in the back is taking my attention from the words in the foreground already, especially since it sticks out so much against the more bland red tone of the building. The person crossing the street is a good addition though. The exposure looks fine on my monitor.

    Payn,

Maybe the person walking across the street is Wraith...

    Thanks for the comments

    Re: Wraith has herpes

I wouldn't crop the image to move the text, but try to reshoot it if it's not too far out of the way. I cropped it just by srolling and I did't like it all that well. I just didn't have enuf BG for me.

Like Chow said, I wouldn't want the text right at the bottom of the image, just a bit lower. I also like Marty's idea of a more extreme angle to get rid of some of the street.

Another thing I thought might be kind of cool would be to shoot this at night with a long exposure to get some cars streaking thru the BG. It might draw too much attention away from the text tho, but might be worth a try. So many ideas, so little time...

    Michael,

Thanks for the comments. I'll take that into consideration. By the way, great idea on the long exposure idea.

    Thanks again,

    Re: Wraith has herpes

I keep coming back to this picture. It's a little like Kate Bush: keep trying to work out whether I like her or not!

I've decided that I do like it - it's not for everyone but, like a lot of your pictures, it's a "photographer's photograph". I suppose the fact that it keeps drawing me to look at it again says something. Most photos you look at and move on - but this is a little different.

    I like it.

    Mike,

Thanks for the comments! Ah, Kate Bush....but I won't comment on that Well, if the shot keeps on making you come back and view it; I'll take that as a job well done. I'm glad you like it and my "sense" of style.

    Thanks again.

Jared, i like the scene and while i think the shot is ok i feel like maybe opening up the composition a bit would work better and achieving stronger focus in the fg. Well seen .

    Kate Bush? Mmmmmmmmm
Her new album takes some listening to though !

I'm in the "crop from the bottom a bit" group, as when I scrolled the web page I noticed it looked better (to me) clipped - not much, but there's too much bin lid for me.

    Re: Wraith has herpes

This is what I call an 'island', it is a tiny event in a sea of millions of other events, but you took time to capture it. Its like so much in life, we only think we see what we are actually looking at.

The fuzzy foreground shows how tight you were on the aperture. Why, was it to exclude the background, or was it because of another reason. Did you compose it or did it happen by happenstance?

Thank you for sharing this picture, it gave me chance to think and maybe explain a little more to myself about what makes me tick, (or not tick).

    Re: Wraith has herpes

    Gary,

Thanks for the comments...are you referring to a great DOF in the foreground? or actually something different for the composition? Thanks again Gary, always a pleasure.

    Paul,

Thanks also. I definately think that crop would have to be done with the current shot if it got to the stage of where I decided to print...thanks again.

    Kizz,

I guess you could say I thrive on your "island" term. Definately looking to photography the daily things in life, especially things we take for granted and see daily (graffitti in this case). This was composed in about a minute...and very quickly. No tripod, handheld, around 1700-1800 hours.

    Thanks for the comments all!
