    Wounded Warrior - Holga...

This is a portrait of a "Wounded Warior I made recently.
I hope it is the first of many to come.
I deal with a lot of Soldiers who get injured while serving "over there", I want photograph them in a diginified and artistic manner.
It also helps me deal with all of this craziness as well..
I'd love to hear what you think of this portrait...

    Re: Wounded Warrior - Holga...

Good to have you back. I like the hard contrast of these two images. At first it bothered me how the bottom half looks like his body is seperated from his upper half, but then it started to sink in. I think, though , that having these two pics side by side might be more effective in that it won't look so "disturbing" and the point will still come across quite effectivley, I think. I like what you are going for with this and hope to see many more.
Actually, Brian, the more I look at this the more I think it works well as it is.

I am looking. I need to ruminate on this one. I just wanted to let you know that I checked it out. I will be bck to comment on it later. I need to think about it some more and look at it again. It deserves some extra attention.

I Like it. i think its a great contrast, the top picture you think its a healthy young man serving his country, and then as you scroll down you see other wise. i think it gets a very strong message across.

Without the back story it wouldn't be much of anything. With the backstory it is pretty darn good.

As long as it is captioned I think you have a winner here.

You did a similar portrait of an unwounded soldier about a year ago I think, same technique. I think this one is far more effective. The difference in perspective between the two frames, for me, magnifies the cane and the wound's existence. No back story needed, the cane and the title speak enough. The black and white in the Holga is really communicating. An effective way to cope regardless.

You are right, I did. I think this one is far more effective. I was going for a different thing with the other one.

I thinks this works very well on several levels. The soldier's expression and stance which you have exagerrated effectively by splitting the image with the two separate exposure, and the offset in two creates a clear delineation of the components of the subject.

The lines that exist in the images are very positive even if the 'story' is yet unfinished. I won't delve into the whole meaning of lines and visually directionality other than to say this photo comes off to me as upbeat and hopeful. The upper portion shows some uncertainity but determination. The lower shows the rest of the unfinished reality but it has a neutral quality.

I am just going to stop and say Well Done.

It sure has a retro feel to it. Seems like Vietnam. The wounded angle isnt real prevalent. Still, a neat shot.
