I like the composition of this one. I also find it interesting that her looking kind of to the right of the photo (from the viewer's point of view) has the effect of linking her in the foreground to the background of the photo. One thing though is I'm not sure how oof the background should be. As is, not a deal-breaker for me but I could see some would find the background distracting. Overall, I like the image quality (something which a few here seems to forget about) of this image. Not really a surprise considering it's from a D700 Having a good looking model doesn't hurt either
Thanks fellows. Always happy to hear your viewpoints.
AE, you really hit it right on the head when you mention the D700 and the model. With film cameras, the camera body didn't seem to matter very much, just the lens. Not so with digital -- it seems the newer cameras are getting better at controlling contrast w/ increased dynamic range. However, it was overcast too, which helped. And of course this model is incredibly photogenic. She does her own poses 80% of the time.
It's funny how you mention the background being potentially distracting because I didn't see that at all, but agree that it could be an issue. At least there isn't a power plant or related back there though!
Gary, thanks for the compliments. This gal really knows her stuff and makes life easy for the photographers. I worked with a 17 year old model two weeks ago who was at the opposite end of the spectrum... That's when you really have to work at trying to get a respectable photograph (I mostly failed, but I think she might be happy with them).
Neither of you mentioned an item that I feel hurts the photo: looks like my focal point for this DOF was pushed a little too far back and her toes might be fading out. Hard to tell ...

It's not really an issue to me but I have received enough comments on my images to notice that it seems to be an issue to many people, you know, those photographers type

Hehe...I did notice that but I'm not sure if it's an issue as I'm don't shoot people bare-footed people a lot so, your call. You can sharpen them more if you want to (and clean up those sands while you're at it ) but I would rather pay attention to some other parts of her...:wink5:
The softness in this image is amazing. great job. love the pose also. the only nit pick being the blown out skies, but the softness is probably due to a cloudy situation. anyways. awesome job. one day! one day i'll do portraits. lol :-)

Thanks guys. It was really overcast that morning at the beach. Good thing, too, as it was desert-like bright about 3 miles inland.
