Isn't it a cool thing in nature that the colours never seem to clash...

    Re: Winters Here!

the tree is an interesting subject. The rows in the field add some interest too. Composition wise, I like that it leans us to the left but I wonder if it might be a little too much. For example, perhaps you used the off level horizon line to try and reduce the effect? Or perhaps you just wanted the tree trunk vertically level. It looks purposeful what you did so I am guessing that you spent a lot of time thinking about how to compose this. Which is probably why I'm so interesting in it myself It looks hard to compose well.

Technically speaking there's little to complain about. The light *could* be more interesting in the fore but that's not your fault.

After looking at this photo for some time, I think I'd probably try a slightly different crop. I'd crop a little bit off the right side of the frame so that the mid-level branch poking out to the right is closer to the edge of the frame and and also far enough that the crop line falls in between the two trees. I'd also play around a little bit with the rotation of the image. I'm not sure that would improve it but it might. Depending on the rotation I might crop a little off the bottom too.....but not much. I don't think the forground is adding much to this.

Finally, due to the haze I think this is a great subject for manually vignetting on the edges. I think it'd really help the composition a lot by keeping your eyes from exiting off the left side of the frame.

Very wordy I know, but I'd be all over this tree trying to make something work too. I can see why you photographed it.

    Re: Winters Here!

I have a thing for fog pics so I naturally like this one a lot.
I don't think the unlevel horizon is a problem as if you straightened it, all the trees would lean horribly, which tells me that there IS a slope there.
Trevor might be correct about the crop from the right.
Whichever way you like, print it and hang it.

I had actually cropped and rotated it for myself and they don't give the appearance of leaning....or at least, it looks natural. Try it, you'd be surprised

I'm no qualified photo critic, but my first thought was that area is subject to some fairly constant prevailing winds.

I think the almost Vertical trunk indicates almost flat ground,

Huh? ("Pigs say "Huh" , I'm supposed to say UnHuh!) :blush2:

    Re: Winters Here!

Pete - I think I would like it better if the horizon wasn't tilted. I am a little confused as to whether you titled it on purpose, but I find that when folks do that 'a little' that it looks more like a mistake than anything. Anyway, I like your shot here and agree that the fog makes for a great scene. I think it might be even better if if you shot it from a tad bit lower, just to separate it form the background trees even more. Perhaps use a tripod too, as somehow it doesn't seem as sharp as it should be (that could be the fog condensation on your lens, however). The muted density creates a nice feeling.

    Yep, summer is almost here...

Good stuff, personally I'd bump the contrast up a bit to slightly reduce the haze (though the haze is part of the shot here I think), the land is also slightly tilted.

A great big thanks for all comments every one. Um yeah, the tilted horizon was an over
sight on my part the lines in the maize stubble really do seem to emphasise the problem.
This is the image with suggested crops.
