    Winter sky

Still from this afternoon. Sun lit trees against a cloudy sky...

    Seb,

Not my favourite to be honest. Though I kind of like this idea as it follows your previous flower (?) one, though this just doesn't work for me. I can't find a strong subject to focus in on and the colors just don't do justice for me.

Sorry if I sound harsh, but I've seen better from you.

Thanks Jared! There is no need to apologize, I am always seeking for straightforward feedback. I have been desaturating colors on purpose in an attempt to make the sky more menacing while retaining a certain "glow" on the trees. Do you feel that a more saturated picture would works better?

    regards

    Seb,

Thanks for taking the feedback fine...it's hard to say things on here without letting people show your emotion. I think about it now, and I'm presuming the same color set/scheme was used with your macro shot...right? It may not be the color, but just the fact that I have trouble finding a main subject that I recommended the color change just to make a change and try to make it work for me.

The colors may not be a problem, but probably something out.

My post processing wasn't quite the same with the close up. I rather bumped up saturation on that one to give a little more glow to the subject. The ultimate goal do is to achieve a rather consistant color scheme for the series.

    Then again, thanks for commenting.

    Re: Winter sky

Seb, i think this picture is fine. It is not a subject matter or scene that is going to reach out and grab the viewer by the throat and make them like it, but it offers more in the way of appreciating the subtle nuances. The framing and comp is very good. The lighting, and the sky in the back is what brings the image it's quality. The warmly lit trees with the icy cold sky as the backdrop lend a certain, subtle yet electrifying mood and presence. I can imagine standing in that scene and feeling the cool air, the warm sun, and the tension of that sky. All the technicals are good, i like this.

    Seb,

My only criticism of this pic is the dark hedge cuts the shot in two. If the hedge had been lower in the frame it would have been better. Other than that its okay.

Roger, that is a good point. Although in this image it does not seem to bother me, I think your observation of the hedgeline in the distance cutting the image in half is a valid point. However, he must include the fg and base of the tree there to make this work, as it already does for me. In order to do this, Seb would have to have gotten lower and shoot upwards to bring the line down and still include the trees base and fg.

    Seb,

I like this image. There's something about it that I really enjoy viewing - the tree against the winter sky makes it a very peaceful scene, and the lighting makes it IMO.

    Re: Winter sky

Thanks guys. You are right that I should have used a lower point of view to move the horizon line. I haven't thought about that... Unfortunatelly, I am not sure that I could get that kind of sunny/cloudy weather again. I'll try to reshot if the opportunity arise.

On a side note, I didn't really meant/found a subject for this picture if it makes any sense. I was essentially attracted by the geometry of the scene and how the different elements comes together.
