A Winter Scene

My attempt to capture that winter spirit. Taken while standing in snow up to my knees .

What would improve this shot? I worry that the top part might be a little busy and the trees a little barren.

I don't think the top is too busy or the trees too barrne...it is winter.
I think its a nice shot and you caught some nice light.

PC, the warm light is making this shot. The composition does feel a bit busy to me but if I take off the top it just loses something. I find that cropping off the bottom area just up to the brush that is coming out of the snow near the middle right works well. The eyes are not pulled up and down by both area at top and bottom, but rather allows me to comfortably start at the bottom and float up to the trees without distraction.
Very good feeling of winter and the touch of warm glow sets it off nicely.

It's a lovely scene indeed PC and I like it very much as it is. The light and the lovely, curvy, smooth undisturbed snow make for an excellent Christmas/Winter scene.

The snow, lighting and water in the bottom half of this image appeal to me. The trees would work too if they didn't go all the way across the frame from left to right.

I'd like to see the way this scene would look if you moved to your left and turned the camera more to the right. Is there a gap in the trees out there somewhere?

Gary - Thanks for the crop recommendation. Are you saying to crop to where the bottom branches of the bush are, or just where the bush shows from the snow?

MB - There are a lot of trees out there. Here are a couple shots further back to give you a better sense of the area. I didn't get a chance to go more left, I was trudging in the snow as it was. I'll have to look at the other shots to see if they have more of the right area.

Just to the bottom branches of the bush. i do like the texture of the snow in the fg there but i think losing some of that and the dark path of water will help simplify the composition and make an ultimately stronger image.
The other two you have just posted are very nice, i like the second one especially.
