I do like this image, but for some reason I don't get the feeling of winter from it. I can only surmise that because the tree is bare it leads the viewer to believe that it is a cold wintery day. Or is it spring and the tree is just starting to come alive? Could it be fall after all of the leaves have fallen? Maybe if there was some snow or ice on the tree it would give a better feeling of being winter.
I do like the composition, the focus is tack sharp, and even though there isn't a lot of color I do like what I see. Thanks for sharing.
Seb, the patterns here are interesting against the light sky. There is not much for me personally to appreciate in this image other than the patterns and i'm feeling like I would want them to be a little stronger in contrast. A slight increase in contrast to bring out those darker limbs against a bright bg. That is the strength of this image and giving it a little more pop i think would help bring it forward.
I agree with Gary in regards to the contrast...I definately think you could do something to make it "pop" per se. I prefer this to your other tree shot and I think the tight crop works well.
3 for 3! I like all your winter patterns and often look at all three of these plants while driving around. The color of this late winter willow (and the red of it's lower growing cousins in the marshes) is something I always like to see this time of year.
I also love the angular patterns of the sumac branches in #3 (they sometimes remind me of stags' horns) and I have a bunch of my own Queen Anne's Lace shots in all it's various stages.
Here is the same picture with a little more "drama" so to speak. I boosted contrast, saturation and then I applied a moderate curve.
Seb
(Tim: I do have a different composition but there are visible buildings through the branchs, I couldn't use it without a dramatic crop)
Seb,
I think this version is much stronger for me. It's amazing what a little difference makes, eh?
What this version has is a simpler pattern of semi-circles coming up from the bottom left -- that sits on top of the complex pattern of branches. It is a nice fractal that calls for further study.
Stronger now, Seb. The glow of the sun on the branches is even more evident and attractive, something i did not anticipate. the dark limbs really create and dramatic pattern in the cold sky.
Thanks again guys. Looking back at it, I really screwed the post-processing with the first version lol. I shouldn't have posted it at the first place... I'll see how that second version prints...
