Hi all,

Thanks for reading this post i really do appreciate your time. I have been out taking some snow pictures today and really would love some feedback! i am really a novice and any critical feedback would be greatly recieved.

What i like about the image is the snowy scene, and the colors. The weathered greenish toned tombstone against the red/orange tree in the backgroundis a pleasing contrast. Overall, my feeling is that the scene is cropped too tightly. I suspect you cropped this alot from the original image out of the camera.I would like to see the original, if your willing. I feel a more vertical frame would fit this scene best and including more of the bottom area of the scene. Try posting your images a litle larger here so they are more easily viewed. you can resize up to 640 at the longest side.

ok, I can see it very well now, thanks. So this is the frame ratio of your camera. I would suggest a reshoot, and what I would do is shoot with a vertical frame,stand back a few feet more to include a little more of the stone and the background, and stand over to your left another foot so that the tree trunk in the background is seperated from the tombstone. This will increase the perception of depth. Also, by steping back a bit, you will increase the dof slightly .And lastly, take lots of shots from slightly different angles and compositions to give your self some choices in the end as to what works best. Hope to see more.

No problem. DOF stands for Depth of field. This refers to how sharp things appear to be from fg ( foreground) to bg (background). Being that your focal point was so close in the fg, your bg elements became very blurry, which is alot of times a desireable effect. I feel it is ok, but a slight increase in the dof may improve the picture abit. By moving back a little you not only include a little more of the scene, but the focal point is moved abit more into the scene and will allow a greater perception of focus throughout the image.

Well done. That last Tombstone composition is just right. Great placement of the tombstone and tree, horizon line is below center making the whole comp feel right. The creepy branches with snow covering them is a huge plus as they seem to extend and reach out towards the stone. This one is just right.
The other picture is also very well composed and makes a fine scene. I would suggest cropping the right side off to eliminate the tree trunk sneaking in on the right and then crop a bit off the top if you would like to keep the aspect ratio the same. Well done.
