I prefer the 1st one. more going on. the 2nd one is simple, maybe a little bit too simple, the composition is also throwing me off, i wish you had featured the stream a little more in shot 2.

Carlo ...nice shots. I have been out and about when snow, ice and a hint of spring are all in the mountains at the same time, and the feeling is great. In the first image, I think what captured your attention was the frost on the trees, and it is certainly a worthy subject. However, a different point of view may have accentuated more of the tree and less of the background, that seems to be a little dark. Experimenting with a very shallow depth of field and coming closer to the tree may have yielded some interesting results. Still, the scene is very nice and serene, and I like it.
For the second shot, I really, really like the steam above the water and light hitting it, and making it glow. Composition suffers a little, though, as the stream on the left seems chopped off - zooming out a little to embrace the whole scene may have worked a little better.
Thanks for posting.
How beautiful it must have been to be able to photograph this wonderful landscape! I'm very jealous. Now, I am very new to this, so please excuse my ignorance, but I would like to share some thoughts.
I really like what you were doing with the first photo. The sun really lights up the ice on the branches; however, like the previous poster said, it darkens the background significantly (almost unnaturally). Was this intentional? Perhaps to highlight the tree itself? I wonder if the shot was taken at an angle where the sun was just out of the lens's view, if you could still amplify the ice on the tree but not take too much away from the background as well. Just curious, although it may lighten up the background too much and create more of a distraction.
The second photo is quite simple, but the steam being lit up kind of distracts the eyes a bit. If it were a wider shot, it might not be so distracting. The subject is a beautiful one. I wonder if a longer exposure time would have enhanced it somewhat.
thanks everyone for comments
