    Windy day

A few posts back I was told that if I slow down my shutter speed, I could capture more movement in weather shots.

Since it was windy today, I thought I'd give it a try. Come to find out, my camera won't let me adjust shutter speed even in manual mode. All I can do is change the ISO, so I did.

I'm still not sure that I've produced any decent photos here, so feel free to point out anything I could improve on

Meg, I'm loving your concept. Any issues seem to be due to the camera. You have a bit of a color cast on the first and I tried to see if I could correct it but I just don't have the skill to make it work. But here it is regardless.

How are you converting the black/whites? They seem to need more range. What software do you use?

I wish the camera would give you more control. Because these are a great concept.

That's the effect. You get a good feel for the motion of the leaves with the stationary elements in the shot. Grasses and long spindly flowers are effective this way to. You can also use a little fill flash to get a mix of moving and stationary subjects.

What can you change in manual mode? Aperture? Selecting smaller aperture results in longer shutter times. You made good use of the iso setting.

Thanks d, yes I loved how the dead tree was the only stable one in the scene.

I like your color version better, too. I couldn't seem to get the reddish tones out of the tree without making the rest of the colors flat.

Ummm, as far as the converting goes, I've seen that it's there on my software (Arcsoft Photostudio), but I don't know what it does That 2nd pic was originally in color, so I used the conversion thing on it, it's reposted below. I don't know if it looks better, or just looks busy, or what, but I tried.

The 3rd pic I took in b/w mode to begin with. So I tried to convert it, too, but the dead tree blended in too much and I couldn't fix it.

    Wow, that was long...

Chunk, glad you liked it. I didn't even think about using the flash! Some other people have said that it can "fill in" daytime shots?

Let's see, if exposure is the same as aperture, then yes, my camera will let me change that. When I up the exposure, the picture gets brighter, so is that like opening up the aperture to let in more light? If I can ever get away from these schoolbooks, I'll do some reading on camera settings

    Thanks for the comments
