    Window Sill Sunflower

Here is one that was very much an experiment in several ways. Posted it in the gallery and didn't get any reaction. I'd to see what some of you guys have to say about it. I was playing with a new Nikkor 50mm f1.8 lens.

Wow! That's an awesome photo, OT. It looks like it's real.....the sunflowers look like they're popping right out of the screen. 3D. The colors are brilliant.

    What did you do?

Thanks you Liz. I started out trying to do a backlight photo but didn't like the results so I add a bit of reflected light form the SB800 on -2 power. Shot at 1/60 at about f7.

I think the tomatoes make the image (well that plus a great composition) allthough the sunflower yellow looks a little green to me......

Larry, this is a very nice setup and it came off rather nice too. I even like the texture of the screen evident behind the flowers. Looks very sharp as well.
    well done, Larry

Thanks very much Gary, Greg and MB1. I was wondering what other would think about that screen. I kind of like the effect it gave. As to color the yellow was so vibrant that I tried to back it down a bit. May have gone to far. Thanks for the looks and the comments.

    OT,

Nice composition. My one critique would be the yellow should be a little brighter because it is the main focus of the image which would make it pop out of the screen more than it does already.

    Nice work

Great photo. Again, depth is really a contributing factor to its success. Try taking a picture of the yellow petal on its own (zoom in so that's all you see) and editing it until you get the colour you want. Then saving a statistics file (in photoshop) from the image-->adjustments-->match colour tab. Then, load up this picture, select the yellow colour range (should be easy to do) and run the match colour thing again but this time load the statistics file you saved earlier. This way the overall tone of the image is preserved, but the petals are the colour you want.

Thanks Roger and fx101. I'll see what I can do to pump up the yellow. I appreciate the suggestions.

There is a lovely shape to this. I think the colour balance is good. I think if you up the yellow the reds are going to look a bit too dull. So if you up the yellow ,up the red accordingly.
I'm not 100% sure about the screen as it gives off a nylon/ plasticy look to it. A natural background would have worked better I feel.
But it's a lovely shot one way or another.

Well I didn't have a lot of choices on the screen. The wife would have shot me if I'd removed it and let the outdoor flying creatures in the house. Thanks for the kind comment on this one.
