    Re: Window by the Sea

I like it a lot but it looks tilted. Other than that it works great. If this is a place you have access to you could do a series with different light and whatever changes outside the window.
Good eye and love the effect!

In color. I like it. Even the clouds were working for you. Nice shot Gary.

This looks good Gary on this dust covered crappy monitor in the earthquake torn city of Pisco in Peru. Maybe it is a little pity that one basket covers the window reflection. I like the colour outside the window. My internet time is just about to run out.
    Regards for now.

Top notch, Gary. I think I see what Frog is getting at. The floor does seem a different angle by looking at the floorboards, but it's not enough to spoil anything. Good job.

    Re: Window by the Sea

It's slightly titled, you can confirm by lining up the bottom of the browser to the bottom of the door.

Great contrast, interesting location. But I think it is slightly cramped and think I would like it better if there was more space at the bottom and top. Mystic is a great place to photograph btw, as is most of NE.

    Re: Window by the Sea

I'm having a hard time making out detail in the interior Gary, which I think is a pretty important part of this. I think the angle of the sun as well as exterior brightness might be holding your eye too much.
Please ask to edit photos and I'll do the same!
    Thx, Rod

    Re: Window by the Sea

I agree with JK. I love the framing and the angle that the light is coming through the window, but I really want to see more of whats going on inside and as dark as it is my eyes are struggling to make out the detail, it is distracting. I would like to see it just a smidgen brighter on the inside. The outside is perfect as is, the boat, water, dock, trees and sky are all very well placed. I feel silly making such a nitpick on an otherwise wonderful shot though, good work.

    Re: Window by the Sea

Frog, thanks. Your idea about hitting this at different times of day is great and leads me to think about another location that is closer to me that I may be able to do a project like that. This place is just too far out of my reach for that.

Greg, I'm glad you like it in color I had tried my usual editing flavor and also b&w with this but kept finding the the colors held much of the appeal in this for me.

Tom, I'm only able to imagine the great images that will be coming home in your camera from the "Earthquake torn city of Pisco in Peru"
Actually, I also thought I did not find the basket in front of the window to be an ideal placement but I find now that I like the slight silhouette of the basket being offered up. Perhaps would have been better altogether with only the one basket at the right side. . . . thanks.

PBD, thanks for the good words. I'm glad you find the comp to be gracefully composed . . . I tried.

John, thanks. I tried straightening this all I could, but I think no matter what it will always perceive to have a slight tilt. I'm glad you feel it's a minor thing that does not hinder overall.

Lori, lol, I think sometimes I'm tilted too when I view things . . .thanks for your nod of approval.

GB, I agree that opening it up a bit more could help. So you have been to Mystic? Love the place. I have gone several times over the last few years. The seaport is amazing . . .

Rod, I'm wondering if our monitors are seeing things close to the same. I can make out much detail in the interior except for the front area of the baskets, especially the one on the left. Other than that, I can see the wall, the rope and block of wood on the right and all it's details, the table surface, and details of the sides and or course the highlighted areas of the baskets.
I really did not want to open t up too much or risk losing the mood of the lighted window and dark interior. I find that sometimes what we can'y see is just as important as what we can see.
As always, thanks for your comments, Rod.

Anebesol, Thanks for your time. As I responded to Rod about the interior detail, I wonder if our monitors are seeing things differently in that regard.
Absolutely nothing to feel silly about, this is the forum for "nitpiks" as I find myself doing it alot. It can only help us in analyzing the things we find important in the helping or hindering of a photograph.
    thanks

    Re: Window by the Sea

Gary, I can see those details and they are in a good light. The monitor is calibrated and a decent Samsung model. I guess what I'm missing is a little more detail and exposure on the wall boards. And by possibly shooting in a earlier light you could have brought them out without overexposing the exterior. .. i like wood.
Please ask to edit photos and I'll do the same!

Thanks for following up, Rod. Funny thing is I had alot of detail and expoure in the wall boards but reduced it as I thought it ruined the dark mood I wanted here.
I'm a big believer in "what we don't see is as important as what we do see"
I guess it's just a subjective thing, and as always I value your take on it.
    Thanks Rod.
