This one has me feeling caught in between. If I had not seen the other two I would probably love it but since I have comparison it just doesn't seem as strong. Here's my hang up. I really like the strong shadow of the horse on the ground, I really like the angle at which you have presented him, but I don't think I like them together.
My monitor may be suspect here, but his face seems to melt into the shadow on the ground and there doesn't seem to be enough separation. That might also change of course viewing a full size print versus this web version. At any rate I know you are very careful about your exposure so it's just a consideration. I think I also would have liked to see more of the shadow on the ground running the full length of the horse but hey, I wasn't there, maybe that just wasn't possible and it's ALL personal preference. The horsetail cloud sky in this series really makes the equestrian theme feel full circle. Must have been a wondrously good day.
Excellantly done. It's so clean and does such a nice job of showing the big sky. I like the shadow of the horse. The B&W is a positive here. The sky really cooperated for you I see.
The only pt that I feel limits the shot is the angle of the horse w.r.t. the lens. If the fellow as just turned a little more to your right... Might have filled up the frame better. As is, it seems like he doesnt want to turn his back on you (most animals seem a little apprehensive of humans). But still a very nice photo.

CLKunst: There is separation betwen the horse head and his shadow both on my calibrated screen and in print but I realize that this is a tricky one since the separation remain relatively subtle. It certainly won't show up on every monitors. Thank you for commenting, I appreciate it.
GB: Those wild horses weren't that wild at all lol. There must be a certain number of hickers passing by on a weekly basis despite the fact that the area is quite remote. Thank you for sharing your view.
I ADORE this!! It's wonderful. But to be honest, I can't tell you why (which I think makes a photo great, being able to evoke an emotion and the person can't even tell you WHY!!). Part of it is the smooth sweep of the neck, echoed in the curves of the mountains and the shadow. Part is the impact that the horse has as compared to all else around him. I know that the clouds tie in. And I think the tonality is just awesome. But none of it is coming together for me other than to tell me that this is just an amazing image. If this is the poorest of the three, I can only imagine what the other two look like.
