    Wild horse

This was shot last week in the striking Magdalen Islands. I discovered a new level of beauty which probably can't be translated into a photograph. At least, I keep a memory of the place.

    Hi Seb,
The photo is very good indeed. I like the low angle of viewing. I especially like the resemblance between the horse back and the distant mountain. Well done!

What happened Seb? Run out of buildings??
Nice tonality here. Like the angle too. It feels like the big boy was searching the horizon for a friend.

Lovely picture! I really like the B&W, especially the sky. I'm not sure if I like the angle, I like the feel it gives to the photo, but it also kind of distorts the horse's size.

WOW. Gorgeous photo! Incredibly interesting angle and tonality that kicks some serious butt. If only the horse pictures I took recently turned out as well.....

Very dramatic indeed Seb and in some way it looks unreal. Lovely curves in background but not matching the beautiful ones of the horse (more or less as Yoyo says) The best horse picture I've seen.
    Any post processing here Seb?

    Re: Wild horse

    ladybugamanda: thanks!

Yoyo: This is an interesting observation. Thanks!

swmdrayfan: lol! I did ran out of buildings and that's a blessing! Thanks.

echoback: The depth and relative distortion comes from the use of a wide angle lense. It was done on purpose. Thanks for commenting.

molaselake: Thanks a lot. I have been experimenting to achieve these tones.

    manacsa: Thanks!!

Tom: I can't quite recall every single step involved but I basically applied a b&w conversion through the channel mixer (100% red), a duplicate layer of the base layer set to multiply with a strenght of 50% and a slight boost of the black level in the "neutrals" copoment through the relative colors tool. That's pretty much it. Thanks for commenting.

Superb! The stark landscape fits the sleek coat of the horse all leading to very dramtic sky. Very nice photo.

    Exceptional work Seb!

I think both of these images are superb but this is my favorite! What an awesome sense of wild majesty you have captured here. It seems clear to me the horse is owning all he surveys. Wonderful communication of power and beauty combined with spot on technicals. Somebody stop me before I run out of superlatives!

Of the two, this one stands out for me. Well captured and beautifully presented.

Not sure if the difference in contrast between the subject and his/her surroundings was done on purpose or not - it works really well here.

    Re: Wild horse

My apologies for chiming in late, Seb. Just want to say that all the elements come together beautifully here - as everyone else has correctly recognized.

What a day it must have been. That sky, that horse, that terrain. You captured it artfully and rendered it masterfully.

I doubt that even a skilled painter could have painted a more beautiful scene.

This is what it is all about.

Great pic Seb,,,,it works well in mono,,perfect tonality and the sky is dramatic...Compo is good too....Only one small gripe...Due to wide angle distortion the horses hind legs look larger than they really are compared to it's front legs..

    Very nice shot man.

The horse's pose has a dreaminess about it to me that I really like. The tones are also great and well defined. The comp is also nice. In short, I really like everything about it.

Coastal Flyer: Thanks. I did worked out the sky to get the look I was seeking for.

CLKunst: Thanks! You don't have to stop... lol

Tuna: Thanks! The difference in contrast was there at the first place. It was somewhat strengthened in post processing but I will admit that it was more or less intentional.

    Loupey: Thanks a lot!

Jurgen: Thanks. I agree about the distortion.

    Leels: Thanks

Seb, these are a superb collection of horse images with this one being my favorite thus far. Excellent tones, perspective, contrast, and lighting. The sky seems to beam out around the horse in a heavenly way. Great work .

There is little to add in terms of critique. I personally like the way that the wide angle emphasizes the power of the hindquarters of this majestic animal! Fantastic, just fantastic!!!!! :-D

My heart skipped a beat when I saw this!

And Yoyo: THAT'S IT!!! You hit it right on the head. It's the way the horse is somehow reflecting his surrounding. Even the sheen of his coat seeming to mimic the clouds. I love you!!!

I loved your warehouse series. But this....this is a different work altogether. My God!

    Seb,

This has got to rank as one of the best photo's I've seen from you. Hope you got a sticky for this. Not been here for a while due to work so don't know if you got it or not.

I think everyone else said all that I wanted to say.

Did you get lost or was the city vapourized?

    Re: Wild horse

This is a fantastic photo. You really have a good eye with your wide-angle lens. The unusual viewpoint of the horse adds an abstract element, but there's also depth of feeling here. It actually makes me wonder what the horse is searching/watching for...
