Re: Who's Afraid of the Dark?

a neat concept greg. I like the whole a skewer look. Might like it to be cropped some off the left and top to make the tv more prominent? Love spongebob!
Please ask to edit photos and I'll do the same!
    Thx, Rod

Thanks Rod. I wasn't sure on this one. I am back in school and maybe I been reading to much Literature.....But it has me thinking outside what I normally do.

Re: Who's Afraid of the Dark?

I think Rod may be right about the crop if it keeps the same ratio.
Did you want the tv and stand to be leaning like that? I don't think it hurts...just wondering.

    Creative for sure!

Re: Who's Afraid of the Dark?

Thanks Frog, Here is a crop. The lean was done on purpose, I guess. This was at the end of a culdesac and the curb was unlevel. When I leveled it that created the lean, but I kind of liked it leaning.

Re: Who's Afraid of the Dark?

I agree on the crop, just darkness to left of TV, not really needed, and enough sky to keep interest... I like the image very much.. I would also suggest that before crop , you run a skew, and straighten speakers and TV.. The curb and horizon appear straight, but the tilt of speakers to me interfere with balance of shot.. A very nicely executed shot!!

This is a composite. After I took the picture of the TV I came home took a picture of Sponge and PSed him in.

Re: Who's Afraid of the Dark?

    Greg,

Interesting and creative idea. I like what you did but am slightly uneasy with the composition and geometry of the shot, I think there should be more space below the base of the TV stand (whatever it is.. a dresser?). I know it's a nitpick but that seems like it really affects the feel of the shot (bitch bitch .. I know). The fire hydrant is strategically placed at the 1/3rd pt. The stars are excellent but I think I would leave that shutter open all night (turn the TV off after exposing for it) and see how that looks too!.

Re: Who's Afraid of the Dark?

Thanks again GB, Your nit picks make me better. I skewed the TV and put some more at the bottom, luckily I had some. GB I have always been scared to leave the shutter open on a DSLR that long, Not sure why. I just don't want to over heat or fry a sensor.

Re: Who's Afraid of the Dark?

Greg - I've never heard of sensors overheating or frying, but then again I've never heard of someone leaving the shutter open too long and into daybreak, which would overexpose the image, and perhaps hurt the sensor (???).

I think what you might have to be more concerned with is the battery going dead. I've yet to see a digital SLR whose B is mechanical.

As for the new post .. Hmm. Seems to lose some character somehow. Guess you have to see both to realize that !

Re: Who's Afraid of the Dark?

I like the first one, as is. A lot. How did you come up with the idea?

    Great compositing work, too.

I do agree with GB about possibly keeping the shutter open longer for the stars' sakes. But really, awesome job.

Re: Who's Afraid of the Dark?

Thanks again GB. Thanks Drays, I just thought the idea up. I saw a couple of old TV's someone had dumped on the side of the road and though of doing something creative with an old set. Even though this one in my son's and actually works
    Thanks YoYo.
