We had a cold front pass through yesterday and I found this guy out laying on the road trying to warm up. Shot using my digital rebel and EF 100-400 IS lens.

Nice capture. Good thing you had the zoom lens instead of the fixed 24mm wide angle...

The compression and slightly shallow DOF works well here.

Solid photo - especially nice for having him/her in the wild. All the snakes I've found in the wild leave pretty quickly. I like how you've gotten a relatively low perspective here. You have nice shrpness and detail -- I might think about cropping it some ot highlight this, but maybe not.
