    White Sands Vista

A different angle from a sand dune, at White Sands. Taken in March 08, Kodachrome 64.

That's a nice shot. More sky than I would like, since the sky is so bland, but I think if you'd angled down or cropped from the top the plant on the left might look too cut off.

Beautiful spot GB, nicely done. I like the sky personally. It helps lend perspective to the vast openness of the area.

    Re: White Sands Vista

Thanks guys. DR, yeah the sky isn't normally that interesting in itself in the desert. It's a lot better in the morning or just before sunset though. CF, thanks too.

Neither of you mentioned how soft it is. I am still trying to figure out why almost no shots on this roll came out very sharp. Hmm..

    Re: White Sands Vista

I was just wondering what aperture you shot at..(roll..roll of what)..I'm confused?....was it windy?,,the left plant top is really frilly. A nice composition but like you said the softness is there.
Please ask to edit photos and I'll do the same!
    Thx, Rod

    Re: White Sands Vista

Rod - Yes it was windy alright, sand blowing around and probably inside my lens That might have contributed to the softness. It was Kodachrome 64. I also shoot Velvia and Ektachrome in my Mamiya 645.

Next time I'm out in that area I need to do something different. I've hit White Sands soooo many times now, seems I've walked this particular dune area 3-4 times alone. But, it's still a photographer's playground.

    Re: White Sands Vista

I like the composition except that I find the position of the horizon to be a bit bland.

Do the plants ever look green? If you could find a similar spot with wildflowers in the frame I think you would have a winner.
    No, I DON'T need that.
