    A White Sands moment

Taken about a year or so ago in White Sands NM. Note sure if the film reacted to the low light condition with a strong blue cast, or if it actually was blue like that (I suspect it was).

Too much foreground in this shot...?

    Kodak 100VS with Mamaya 645.

Ooooooh...GB...very beautiful! I don't think there's too much foreground in this...I think the lines in the sand really make this picture. The blue cast is really interesting and it works for me because it seems more unusual than the typical shot.

I would say it would be too much foreground if the snad didn't have the very intricate designs made by the wind. Also, that is an excellent shade of blue, be it natural or not. This pic would look blown up to something like a 16x20, and you used medium format so it should be easy to do that and retain detail. I love it, wish we could get colors like that here in GA.

This is excellent and the lines drawn by the dunes and the ripples in the sand lead your eye through the photo.

    Nicely done.

    Re: A White Sands moment

Thks Emily, Zrfraser, Roger. I have mixed feelings about this; The blue seems to overpower, but the lit-up horizon also provides relief. I can even sharpen up the sand more using Corel Photopaint. Perhaps brightening it up a tad will help too.

Zrfraser - Good idea about the printing. I have a place in mind for hanging it too. If I do print it out, the choice of matting color is important: maybe a lighter blue, or a dark grey?

I've been there during the brightness of day and this is nice to see how beautiful it can be at another time. Nice shot.

    Re: A White Sands moment

GB1...I would go with black for the mounting. I think the blue would detract from the very vivid shade you already have, and the grey might wash it out. Black would make it pop even more in my opinion.

A beautiful photograph with some great lines that really draw the viewer into the shot. The only problem that I have is that the horizon appears to be slightly squint. Great light and love the blue.

    Thanks for sharing

Herriot - Looks like you're right about the tilt. I noticed it but originally thought that it was just the way the sand dunes were, but I now think it's tilted. No biggie, I can fix it when scanning.

Zrfraser - It appears you may be right about the frames: I think the black one is the best for bringing out the photo (see below).

    Thanks Tuna and Roger..

    He GB,
That is just stunning. I wouldn't change a think (except for the leveling). I'm good with the blue cast.

Wow, that is a gorgeous photo. White Sands is pretty much the only national park I haven't been to yet, this really makes me want to buy some plane tickets right now!!

Thks Emily, Tim and Echoback.. I guess I will print it and see. Something tells me that the larger the print the better on this one.

Echo, it's worth it! Try camping out there too - it's only way to get sunrise shots, cause the gates don't open early.

the black is definitely the way to go. I wouldn't mind having that hanging on my wall, and I'm sure most other people here think the same.

That about sums it up for me too. The details in the sand make me want to reach out and touchhhhh... and then go back there again

Definitely go with the black, it is very striking with that.

You know, as I look at this longer I am wanting a crop off the TOP not the bottom! I think cropping the top a bit draws the attention back down to the blue and the sands, which is really where your subject is imo. Considering giving that a shot before you frame it.

    Hang it proud!

    Re: A White Sands moment

Rick - I agree about the slight cropping off the top, seems to enhance the composition by stressing the sand patterns.

I think I'll have it printed this weekend and see.
