What do you think of this one?

Here is my take on this site thus far (after my long illustrious 1 day of being a memeber) I believe it will be beneficial in that I don't need anyone to say "great shot" to make me feel better because ultimitly, I know if I like something then for me it is good, but on my first submission I got some great, helpful feedback that I will remember on my next outing. I hope that sums it up in a positive way....?

I'd be curious to know the set up you were using to take this ? Lens , distance etc, and where.

it too bad you had to get such a great shoot of its Butt, but then again animals are not known for being co-operative.

I think it is a beautiful shot, I love the scenery and I am stunned at the antlers on those guys. I do agree if you could have been just a little bit more to the right you would have had just a little better shot but I still think that is a excellent picture.

Great point about the rear, I was so fixed on the headgear that I never considered it.

Re: What do you think of this one?

I think this is a great capture! It's a different perspective on a commonly photographed animal.

Main nitpick: on my monitor, I cannot make their eyes out. This appears to be due to the fact the right sides of their faces are in shadow, in which case the only thing you could do next time is; use fill flash, or switch sides.

On my monitor, again, there appears to be a slight greenish cast to the moutains. I think enhancing the blue of the mountains contrasted with the green of the foreground would be outstanding, depending on your personal practice in digitally altering photos.

Consider cropping some off the left of the frame, and possibly some off the bottom.

Again, great shot! Would you consider posting it in the Nature and Wildlife Forum?

Well...I do agree about the butt of the deer...HOWEVER, if you hadn't been in that particular position, you wouldn't have gotten such a perfect profile shot of the two deer.

I really like the line of the antlers...it's what makes this shot.

I like the creativity behind this. I can't quite remember seeing a wildlife shot composed like this. I'll go with the family and say that the picture would have been a little more flatering if you shot it from a slightly different angle, avoiding that guy butt... lol
Other than that, the lighting is a little harsh and I think that the colors could be enhanced in post processing.
But in the end, your picture remain a distinctive one in my mind. It definately grabs my interest.

I don't know I can provide too many suggestions on this one here, it looks outstanding already. I like how they're looking at something over to the right.

I would have showed a little more of the bottom green in the foreground, for it seems that the closer deer is a little too close to falling out of the frame (actually, looks like you cropped the photo already... did you remove some of the bottom or the top?). The blue cast is there, but doesn't bother me too much. It seems to match the green Ok. The faces of the deer are in shadow however, but there is pretty much nothing you can do about that here short of playing with it in PS or something, and Im not sure that would help. It's what it is, and is fine. Finally, watch those compression artifacts on the JPEG - they are starting to show arond the borders of the horns etc.

You must have used a really long lens here.

Really fantastic capture here! The only suggestion I would make that you can DO anything about would be to compose it with the closest beastie a bit to the left and up, giving them more room to "look into". If you could have gotten more light on the faces it would have been nice, but you can't really tell them to turn a bit to the right so the sun hits their face, eh! I doubt you were close enough for fill flash to work, and if you used it, you probably would have only had one shot at them, cause I'll bet they would have bolted!

Agree 100%. You could have turned this into a low-quality .GIF with two colours, and the symmetry and lines would still make it an interesting picture...

Very well done, another vote for a slightly different angle, but this to get the antlers from the 2 a little bit further apart, the background one nearly merges with the foreground, other than that it's a beautiful shot.

This reminds me of a print I just recently saw at a gallery. Only difference was there were 3 of those things (sorry, know nothing about wildlife). I think perhaps a boost in color, and a little more light in the faces may help. As an alternative, it may have been neat as a silhouette. Just my $.02

Thanks for all the great feedback everyone. Another shot in moments, if I don't lock up again.
