    What da ya think?

Captured in Block Island New York. A picture of golfing into the ocean. What da ya think?

    Re: What da ya think?

This photo has some engaging elements but has some problems. 1st, the horizon is not level, thus giving the picture a cock-eyed look. 2nd, the golfer is too far away, and it isn't readily apparent what he is doing in the shot. 3rd, the framing is too centered. The golfer is not a strong element compositionally.

My "fix" is attached. I cropped it, leveled the horizon, used an artistic filter in photoshop (the photo is somewhat blurry (which is NOT necessarily a bad thing), so the artistic filter gave the whole scene a painterly effect. I also popped the color a bit and used levels to deepen the blacks. This is only one variant of what could be done, but illustrates my critique. This was about a 90 second correction.

no offense, but what kind of camera are you using? those pictures are pretty bad quality wise. Looks like a camera phone to me. the first one was good, but the last 2 seem just like snapshots.

Besides the quality, I love the first one and the crop suggested. The colors are quite bland, but that would be quite the action capture shot given the right conditions IMO.

    Welcome to the boards,

I definitely think that, with a better camera, different time of day, and getting alot closer, the first picture can be very good, but the rest don't do much for me. What kind of camera are you using, because it seems almost foggy and the colors are very dull. Maybe it's just the compression, but I've never seen those effects before.

    Editing Photos

    Steve-
Please don't edit posted photos on this forum unless the photographer gives you permission. I know you did it for good reason and didn't mean any harm. But this has come up before and we always decide that it's best if people only edit their own photos.

I sort of like the painterly quality of this image. I agree that the tilted horizon is a little disturbing. But the image quality doesn't bother me. I just can't tell whether it's intentional or not. I think it might be nice to know whether it was meant to be like this or not.

I think I'd crop it a little more with the golfer near the left side of the frame. I do like the overall tone of the picture though.
