I think you could crop out the blown area at the top and still have an awesome shot. I would imagine large print would suit this one well.

I love the light and composition on this, Pete. While the mist adds to the mood in the hills, I am wishing for a little more clarity out in the valley, but not much you can do about that. Might be tempted to clone out the decapitated ewe along the left edge, or if she isn't decapitated, maybe move her a little further into the frame. Nice image!

    Wonderful image

Too little blacks and to much of a warm tint, I passed this through "Auto levels" which distributes the histogram, in this case it added blacks - and removes color tints - made the image cooler

The valley is now visible and the blown highlight just stayed very shiny

Thanks for sharing this , it is beautiful!

Re: A wee bit more of NZ

My thinking wasthat the blown out sun sorta added context to the bright area in the foreground ( if that makes sense)
Greg I thought about cropping it before posting, but couldn't make up my mind as to should be done.
Ken good point move that sheep
armando I triedyour auto levels suggestion but it didn't seem to make the changes you spoke of.
Hey guys thanks for taking the time to add your thoughts.

I don't think you have to show the sun to provide context for the lighting. What if you cropped it to the clouds just below the sun? That reminds me of baroque paintings where light is coming from one side, but they don't need to actually show the light source.

I love this! I would love to see what it would have looked like with a pinch more from the top left side in the frame but one of the best photos I have seen in a while. Cheers!

Nice shot and what a fantastic moment/scene! I agree cropping the blown sun would be good. With just the rays visible, the sun doesn't need to be - we know it's there. I also agree about the one sheep in the edge of the frame.
But really, it's beautiful. Nice job!

Gorgeous shot. Lovely light and beautiful layering in the hills drawing the eye off into the distance. Lovely atmosphere. My only crit is that the contrast and clarity on the foremost hill with the sheep is very different to the rest of the shot and makes it stand out a little too much.
I know most would advise the farther hills are bumped up in clarity and blacks, but for me, it's the lovely soft light that makes the shot, so I'd soften the front hill. IMHO, of course. Well done. Print it!!!

Re: A wee bit more of NZ

The picture looks a bit blurred out in the distance. Maybe if you sharpened the image and de noised it a bit it would bring out a little bit more of the color in the mountains. but i like how you wanted to direct the picture towards the sheep or ewes but also included the whole mountain range and the valley on the right.
