    Wedding + engagement ring

My first attempt at a decent macro shot. Sigma 105mm macro.

I've never done any macro work. This looks pretty fine to me. Is the bottom half gone becuase you needed it to be held? Have you thought of photographing it in its box? Thre's also that 'shadow' in the middle where the hole is, what is that a shadow of?

I think the focus, colour and depth of field are very good.

Nice chair on the far wall Macros of small shiny things are tough, especially if not in a controlled environment.
I think your comp and color are spot on, seems a trifle dark, but not much. What detracts from it for me, is that the ring itself is not in pristine condition. Nothing against your work, but the finger smudges across the front edge, the pits and dings all along the face, and the diamonds themselves that look to be in need of a cleaning, all take away from the final product...

Agree here. Love the overall idea but that close it needs to be pristine. PS to clean up? Also seeing the "fire" of the stones would be cool but not sure how to create that kind of shot. I like the photo none the less.

Cheers guys. I used the original box to hold the rings in. After seeing the photo in PS, I do agree it does need a good clean-up. I guess taking the photo of a new ring would be the best option.

Macro work is a lot harder too. Completely different set of conditions to work to.

+1. The diamond (or whatever it is ) is dull and not polished. The gold also needs some polishing.

And perhaps have a bright light from above to create the sparkling effect? Not sure what type of light though.
I wish to learn all you can teach me about photography!
