I think as an art shoot is is nice, but if the woman wanted to be crisp maybe not so much. It is a good photograph but i can see why the clients might not love it

Hey, sorry to hear your shoot didn't go like you wanted, but this shot looks pretty cool to me. I like the odd way about it. Odd, but in a tastefully delightful way. The tinting and treatment works well.
I am only wondering about that mic. It is odd resting on his arm like that and I'm not sure i understand why its there.
Other than that, this is pretty cool and i would bet they will like it much

No no... I agree with your assessment. Honest feedback is what I was seeking and your initial impression was probably something like theirs will be (unfortunately). Which is good for me to know ahead of time.

I'd originally had a lighting assistant (with boom and octabank) on tap, but he got stuck in the blizzard on his way into town and I was left with the dimmest, crappiest, contrastiest stage lighting imaginable. One thing I did learn was how hard it is to work magic at f/2 and ISO 1250 with no tripod in the dark.

Haha. What can I say. I would be immobilized in fear. I need safety to take pictures

Thanks Gary. Yeah, the circumstances were so awful that I've still not recovered. A very bad shoot for things to go haywire.

The mic... yeah, not sure what to do about that. It might be a bit complicated to clone out without a trace, but I'll give it a try...

Yep a very difficult clone even if you do have drawing skills.

Cloning that out will be a lot of work. Its really not a deal breaker and it goes along with their"showbiz" look there.
I was wondering about it, but I don't think its something that has to go.

Well then I can't see what they have to complain about. She is in soft focus, but frankly it is hard to see that an anything other than a good thing. She is a handsome woman, but soft focus aint gonna hurt her.

And you can play with the black freely throughout the background. You could probably make her really pop if you wanted to.

I appreciate it's nostalgic, retro look. He looks great, she not as much, simply because the unusual shape her right arm and shoulder make and the want it seems to fade. But I still think there's a chance they may like it a lot

    Dray,
Why not crop it in a little further reducing the mic cloning to just a small patch at the lower right, and sharpen up the eyes (when they look good, the whole shot looks better )

    Re: The way we were

I will give that a try daq - playing with the bg, that is.

Thanks GB. I do see what you mean about the arm/shoulder..

That's a great idea, jet. Thanks. What did you use for sharpening and how much did you do?

    Re: The way we were

I used the sharpen brush in PSP set to 30% but you could do the same in photoshop by duplicating the layer, hit the sharpen button, add an adjustment mask so it just effects the areas you want and then playing with the opacity slider so until it looks believable.
