    Waterfall Steps

took a trip into D.C. the other day and managed to snag some pics with my little 3200 coolpix. (didn't feel like lugging around my other camera bag for a whole day of walking tours. yes, I'm a bad photographer lol.) Anyway, I can't decide which crop I like better. I sort of like the crop where all you see are the steps, but then again, maybe not everyone could tell that those are actually waterfall steps. THe other one provides some background. these are two photos, sorry about the bad separation. comments appreciated.

It has abstract appeal. I dont care for the lighting on the second shot too much, seems muted and uninspiring, but the background gives it a different feel.

I like how you frooze the water, but also wonder how it woud look if you slowed down the SS as slow as 1/4 - 1/2 sec and got a blur? Might be worth a return try. It could use a tripod, but I know how you feel about lugging equipment around. When you set up a tripod with all those tourists around, it tends to draw a quick crowd with people walking into the scene too.

I need to agree with GB on the SS...I think some blur would really set this off. As for the crop...both have their strengths. I think, of the 2, that the first one is best.

thanks for the comments guys! the next time i head into the city for just shooting photos (which is hopefully soon) i'll try that out. I think you are right, a blur would improve the shot. I'll give it a try
