How are you capturing your drops? I have done a little bit of water drop photography by shooting in the dark and using the flash to freeze the drop. A simple thing you can do to make things a bit easier is to keep your drops landing in a consistent place. This will allow you to prefocus on that spot to get sharp images. Experiment with different depths of water. The splashes will change quite a bit when landing in different depths of water. Some colored cellophane below and behind the water can add some interesting color patterns to your images.
Depending on how far you want to take this type of photography, you can get into custom built triggers to help get the shots you want. Check out this site: http://www.liquidsculpture.com/

Thanks for your comment! I do have a bag of water hanging above a pan so the drops are landing consistanly, and this one was taken with foil for reflection, but I will have to try this with colors. Also, thank you for the link- I am brand new to photography, and I'm amazed at the number of gadgets there are!
Excellent capture. It's too dark for my tastes but you can always lighten it up a bit in post processing. Better to be too dark than too light, too.

Great capture. I like the metalic look and feel of the color. The sharp focus and relections really make it pop. I have worked with water and milk using a Pentax Spotmatic in the '70's. Some of my critics said it was a "trick".
I don't believe that is the case here.
My goal was to achieve a 'crown' effect image. A ring of small droplets on top of small peaks surrounding the center spire.
Keep it up, it can be very rewarding.
