    Watching Dinner

Caught this hawk in my back yard watching over the bird feeder. Please critique.

Looks good. Whole new meaning to "bird feeder."

EXIF shows this was shot at 70 meters with a 700mm lens. True?

I think it looks a little flat. I think you should add some contrast and saturation.

I agree. I've seen a lot of red-shouldered hawks this year and all had blazingly bright yellow feet. these appear a bit washed out. Excellent job on getting the eye sharply in focus though.

Yes, the photo has been not been cropped a lot.

    Re: Watching Dinner

This one is a bit too static for my tastes - both in composition and in pose. I would have guessed it was near a feeder even if you hadn't stated it.

Not too much you can do for this specific image except to crop it vertical. Next time keep you eye glued to the viewfinder and wait for it to do something - a look to the side, a yawn, a preen, a stretch, a take off ... sometimes your right index finger is a hair trigger from firing for a long time.

    Re: Watching Dinner

I agree about a bit of flatness. some contrast boost will fix this right up. This photo has a great base on which to operate a minute amount of PP which then will turn it in to an awesome photo. I know there's much that's said about the time of day one shoots. this one sorta looks like a noon / harsh light type of shot. and that might be a cause for the washed out colours? but over all, nice shot, good pose and composition even if the bird is dead centered.
