    Waiting Light

Hi all! Just wanted to pop in and ask for some C&C here. I grabbed this for myself while doing an event recently. I like it but is it waiting for a subject? I can't decide. . .

Comments and critique welcomed. . .Suggestions cheerfully explored.

    Hi Cindy. Love the exposure.
The wall's a little tilted though. I'll bet a curled up cat or child asleep would be a great element to put in here. Perhaps an open book?

    Re: Waiting Light

Cindy, another element like a cat or book as suggested could add, if it were just right, but I do not think this needs anything more. The lighting and the reflections, shadows , lines, mute colrs are pleasing enough. I would straighten the shot by tilting it counter clockwise to level everything up.
    Very nice capture here.

    Re: Waiting Light

I looked at it a while trying to imagine different things. A flower on the window sill...no
    A magazine on the bench...no
I imgine a profile shadow in the window light on the wall...nothing else.
I do like it as is, though.

    Cindy,

Just rotate a bit and print, why spoil a good picture, the old adage kicks in "less is more"

I would have liked a little more on the right. Maybe to see the end of the window.. :shrugs:
I think I like it without someone sitting on the bench. It's a really cool and comfortable shot. Nice Job.

    Re: Waiting Light

A subject is missing, but that might be the allure. It seems to invite you to sit down and relax and think (though it doesn't seem all that comfortable.. I never was much for hard wooden seats). The lighting is good, but as everyone else has remakred, it does need to be rotated a bit.

I think that if you had added/caught a person here that it would be ideal for them to be formally dressed. A casual dress may ruin the moment.

You have recorded the light perfectly, everywhere, resulting in a very pleasing image. No I don't think it is necessary to add anything here, the emptyness is attractive in itself.

    Re: Waiting Light

Thanks for all of the response everyone! I did correct the tilt on the wall for my final edits but must have grabbed the wrong file when I was making a smaller version for the PRCF. D'oh! If you are bored and want a look you can see the rest of my pictures from the evening here: Glen Echo Gala. It was a beautiful event and I have gotten great response from the staff about the pictures thus far.

John - I love your idea for an open book on the bench, that would have been nice. If I had really been thinking I would have grabbed one of the program guides for the evening off a nearby table and used that. It would have been a better tie in to the evening as a whole. Oh well, next time.

Gary - Thank you for taking the time to respond on this one. I always appreciate your perspective. Glad the subject works for you as is.

Frog - Thank you for your creative ideas. If I could wish for something for this it would be an elegant woman's shadow on the wall. Impossible however as those windows are about 75 feet off the ground. Someday maybe I'll make that shadow another way and PS it in to the scene.

Roger - Thank you and thanks for taking the time to think it over. The light and scene were irresistible.

Jason - Thanks for your thoughts, I did consider stepping back to include all of the last window frame but then decided it would probably end up getting cropped out of a final print anyway so why worry about it. Glad it works for you mostly.

GB - Ah well, we're always hoping for just a bit more eh GB? A cow skull, rattlesnake or elegantly dressed lady should appear magically in the right place at the right time, cooperate and then disappear just as conveniently. Later that day I had plenty of elegantly dressed people to pick from but I had lost the light in this spot. [Sigh.] Thanks for weighing in on this one, I always appreciate your two cents.

Tom - Bless you and thanks for responding. I appreciate your perspective and hoped someone might say something to that effect. As I said, it was too yummy a scene to pass up.
