    Vocal Tui

    Hello All
First time out with my new DSLR and first ever post to you guys.
I am a real newbie at this.
This photo was taken in a hurry under a rather dark bush canopy on a windy day.
Any ideas on how to improve, tried cropping but it didn't seem to improve the image.

    Comments please
    Cheers
    Pete

Welcome to the forums! Always enjoy posts by those on the south side of the equator.

I'm not a wildlife photo expert but will say that I like your dof in this shot with good focus on the bird. The brightness of the sky beyond the leaves hurts it but I know its difficult to get birds to pose in just the right place.
    Keep Shooting!

First timer, well great shot I must say, the ruffled feathers from the wind, nicely caught, looks like a bad hair day...Should start on an easy subject like a brick. Anyway welcome, hard also for me to give you any good advice beyond Frog on this one, I've always struggled to get wildlife shots. I'd maybe crop more from the right side to cut out the sky, i.e. crop to the first big clump of leaves behind the bird, this will/should also move the bird off centre (rule of 1/3rds). I look forward to seeing more. Cheers, Shootme
