    untitled

Old picture I found and revived, just want to see what you all think.

It was taken with a Minolta 7D.

    Re: untitled

This is way too dark, and I'm not even sure what I'm looking at in the fg. I wish Icould give you more here, but really it is just too dark.

I agree, it is just too dark to get anything out of.
    No, I DON'T need that.

hmm. I mean, it's a dark picture, but you should be able to see everything, at least, it's fine on my monitor. the grill should be the only thing you see in sun light, with the exception of a little piece of the bench.

F-15_Flyer, i see your intention and i think the photo is not bad, although i cannot really see the grill either. yes there is something and in the beginning i thought it is a piano, which would be great if it was one.
i like the mood you captured with your photo, however, the object there in the garden is the key.

    Re: untitled

It is not so dark that it is black. I can see some things in the fg but not quite able to identify them. The grill is easily seen, but i did not know it was a grill until you said so. I think because it is far off and the light is hitting only the top of it makes it difficult to identify even though it is easily seen. Then the bg with house is dark as well. i think I see the image you see, sort of a strange scene with only the grill lit and standing there in the yard, but I think this is a difficult image to convey to the viewer without first explaining it.
    Just my thoughts about it.

    Re: untitled

If there was a fire going in the foreground grill area, then the darkness would be a positive. But without that, no real sense to it being that dark. The reflection on the metal grill catches my eye, but there isn't enough there to hold my interest.

In all, not a bad shot of one's backyard if to invoke memories, but just not bright or different enough for the average joe.

    Re: untitled

    Thanks for the comments.

It's not about the grill, which is why it's "untitled." Neither is it about memories.

I was interested in the way nothing was lit, except for where the grill is, and how it stood out from everything else. Although, the fact that it's a grill is not important to me, it's a shape, it's light hitting a surface.

It's about the feeling of the photo, the surreal quality so to speak, the ambiguity and oddness of it. The area with the grill is in spotlight, everything else is dark. This is exactly how I saw it, and what's funny is, you guys are seeing what I wanted you to see, but your interpreting it the wrong way.

    "untitled."

Subject matter is irrelevant. In the darkness you see shapes that are holding the composition together, this is all.

Don't take this the wrong way.

F-15 - Perhaps if you cropped out the top part where the sky is, so that only the dark part is left then it would force the viewer to adapt to the darkness and see the things you're seeing. Just a thought - GB
