    Interesting Paul. I do not think the metal band cutting across the center was a good idea though. Also, some warmer lighting I think would bring out the texture in the metal and the wood better.

    We had grey overcast and rain
    I wasn't carrying lights & gels - but maybe I'll got back and reshoot in better weather.
    Where would you put the metal band then?

    It's hard to say really without seeing the enitre subject and it's potential for framing. From what I can see from what is shown in this photo I think I might attack this vertically with the band in the lower third of the frame and having the two nail/rivets that are toward the left framed in the center.
    OTOH, looking at this more and more it does not look too bad centered. The lighting seems to be the real issue here.
