I'm not sure about the answer to your polarizing question... as far as the picture, nice colors; although I don't know if I would have centered the flowers like you did. They almost look like a pair of eyes this way... I may have shot them vertically and a little off centered... but great shot.
The polarizer would help to boost saturation on these. I would also try spot metering on the flowers as opposed to matrix(multi, pattern, watever) so that the BG would be a little underexposed and make the flowers pop more, also that would help hold the detail in the petals of the leaf.
I agree, a polarizer would have helped here. It's just a little flat as is. Also - did you use a tripod? Its a bit soft. Maybe the wind was blowing though.
