Two Scenes - which do you prefer (if either)?

Saw this early morning scene one day. I could feel there was a picture in it but I couldn't put my finger on it. I worked it from different angles and don't know if I got it. Does either of these say anything to you?

I like the one on the left. The boat's color stands out on the water of course then you have the bird that gives the photo story and perspective.

I would liked the right one if the composition brought the two contrast in vessels better together. The void in between ruins it for me.

Now tell us how you got this shot? Where were you standing?

I like the bottom one. I think that seeing that boat out there makes you wonder where the owner is. It is also neat looking at all the large ships compared to the little rowboat. I think the only thing that would have made both pictures a little better is maybe if you had gotten a little lower, more to eye level of the bird. Not sure if you could have though. Good Job!!

I'm gonna go with the first one, just cause I love simplicity. THe bird is a great touch. I think the second one could work greatly if you cropped off all the new yacht's, and just had the old canoe all by it's lonesome in the water.

    Good eye.

Thanks, Jared, ChowChi-Ching, and Manacsa, for your comments.

OK, here's how it unfolded: After breakfast we started a walk over a concrete pier which juts out into the Atlantic forming this harbor. I'm immediately drawn to the only wooden boat in the harbor - and it happens to have a passenger on-board! I get some safe shots (the top one) before the passenger flies off. We keep walking and see an opportunity to try to illustrate a new vs. old theme. Can't change the viewpoint much as I can't go down or move back. Only side to side.

The top one is typical of my usual shooting style - simple, straightforward "look at what I am showing you" approach.

    Thanks again for your response.
