    Two From Brighton For Critique

These are really an experiment in composition. I'm not sure if they work although I like them. One is a bit more straight forward than the other. How does everybody else feel? I'm a little bit at sea.
Both taken with my little point and shoot.

I have a total lack of respect for anything connected with society, except that which makes the roads safer, the beer stronger, the food cheaper, and the old men and old women warmer in the winter and happier in the summer. Brendan Behan

Tom - that little red sail boat will be quite famous one day - it appears in the thread "Breaking all the Rules" too!

Of the two I like the minimalism of the second shot more. Even so, your P&S did a pretty spiffing job!

I like the second as well. I think the first is not bad but could have been really fantastic if you had gotten the camera right down near the ground. Two thirds water/ one third sky can work really well, but I think 75-80% might be pushing it a bit too far.

Tom, I feel alot stronger about the second image as well. there is a nice minimilist feel and balance and the sky, water, and boat are illuminated very nicely.
The first just does not pack the visual impact that the second composition does.
Very nice, that little red boat has become quite famous.
