    The Tunnel

This tunnel means a lot to me, as I've been riding through it my whole life, so maybe that's why I like this photo so much.

Just want to see if it's anything, to anyone. Critique welcome.

Not much bad about this one. If I had one nit pick it would be catch it when the end of the tunnel wasn't so bright and maybe a tripod and higher f/stop to make the lights have a star effect.

Maple - KNow what you mean, as an emotional attachment to a certain place can really influence our perception of a spot. To me this is a bit of a dangerous shot, like maybe you shouldn't have taken it (but glad you did :smile5. I think it would have came out better w/ one or two adjustments: the end of the tunnel was up a little farther away from the corner, and maybe a slower shutter that showed some blur on the side walls. But not too much.

Try mounting the camera on your dash as far forward as it'll go, and safely triggering it, somehow .. But this may be exactly what you already did!

Thank you both very much for the notes. I will be going through it again tomorrow so I plan to recreate it with your suggestions.

    Re: The Tunnel

I think this idea has some potential and I like the photo as sort of a photo sketch. But like Avalanche, it's not doing much for me right now. I generally look for a photo to have three interactive elements to make it dynamic and engaging. In the this case it feels like there are just two, to me - the end of the tunnel and tunnel itself. I think you need to ask yourself what it is about the tunnel that's compelling to you. What's motivating you to want to make a photo? What is it about the photo that you're trying to communicate to we, the viewers? What does the tunnel represent to you?

I think you've got a nice start on a project here and I'd like to see you continue it. The obvious thing to try next, in my mind, is having another vehicle in the tunnel...

Why not? How could the photographer shoot it differently to make it better? The challenge of good photo critique goes both ways - the photographer is challenged to think about their images and how to make them better, and the critic is challenged to articulate what they like and don't like about a photo and to offer constructive advice about how to improve it. So give it a shot - what it's working here and what could maplestreet do to take a better photo of the same subject?

    Re: The Tunnel

I'd like to see more motion in it. Lights from other cars or an emergency vehicle might give it that extra element of excitement. Now, how to actually time it with such a vehicle may be no simple feat!
