    Tumbling

I've posted this on other forum sometime ago. Folks there are too nice and they don't want to say anything bad about it. Unlike here more people are willing to say what's on their mind. So here goes:

    Re: Tumbling

    Hi:

I think the action and composition in this shot is good. I like the expression of the crowd in the back. I just wish they weren't wearing dark colors, since it makes them seem so much more subdued from the sharp white in the foreground.

A few issues I have is the overall graininess of the picture, and how the second person from the left's head is cut off, but I think that's just a matter of the arbitrary timing. Also I would like to see more of the mat, just because it helps balance the darkness created by the blue curtain in the back.

    Re: Tumbling

It's pretty hard to get sharp clean shots indoors. That being said, I think it's a little too soft and perhaps has too much stuff behind the wrestlers in the form of clutter. I do like the expressions of the people back there, and the way the guy's foot creates a triangle effect.

I wish the judo guys were sharper and the background less in focus. Is this a crop of a much larger image?
    No, I DON'T need that.

Cropped to remove some of the empty space.

It's a ISO3200 shot so it may have something to do with that soft appearance.

It was indoor. The best shutter speed I could get on some occasions was 1/400 f2.8 ISO3200. A lot of time I did not have that.

    Thanks for looking and commenting.

    Re: Tumbling

Neat shot, good capture. I thought it should look sharper as in probably faster shutter and lower iso maybe. I thought as someone else mentioned a bit too much clutter in the background, though the audience expressions are neat. Maybe less depth of field to isolate the fighters more would have been better since might not have been able to get the background just right.

To me it seems like they're a bit too far left into the frame or maybe like the shot should have been just a few more degrees around in front of them, with them a bit back more in the frame as well. I'm not sure on the positioning it's hard for me to say exactly.
    but then...what do I know
