    A try at B&W

I usually do not convert any pictures I take to B&W, I'm learning and would appreciate any comments.

    Copy Kot,
i love the idea, with the black background and all, but the dragonfly seems much to white and blown out ( is that to correct word for black and white?) it seems to lose alot of the detail, which is needed because of how simple the photo is. i like the idea, but i think a better exposed (more evenly) photo would be very impressive.

In color, the pic would be pretty nice, i guess.... but i don't think that B&W fits.
The Fly and the leaf are to bright! And you can't see that many details of the fly anymore.
I like the idea thou and maybe if you'd give it a lighter background it would look better...

Actually, I don't mind the blown out bits in this...I think what would make this work though is if the clarity was better. Like if you could see the detail in the wings it would be quite cool against the black background.

B/W can work for a lot of different things, even bugs I suppose, but unfortunately in this case the exposure, composition and focus are off, and thus it doesn't work for this image. Work on perfecting these (as we all are doing) and I am sure you will have better images to convert over to b/w. A good way to experiment is with portraits. Most any portrait can look good in b/w if the above things are taken into consideration first.

Looks very different, almost like a statue. The extreme contrast did that here. A little too fuzzy to be a great shot, but it is a nice experiment and I think that the black and white gives it a really unusual feel. I don't think it hurt the photo to go B&W here. Just my opin.
