    Re: Tree

For starters I'm a big fan of B&W and this is a prime example of what you can get without color.

Overall the composition looks pretty good but the subject is so detailed that the only way to really judge it would be to view a really large image.

So print it big and hang it on the wall!
    No, I DON'T need that.

    Re: Tree

Initially I felt this was a bit too busy with all the limbs, branches and background foliage. At the same time there was something that makes me want to keep looking, and the more I look the more i enjoy it. I find the blank sky a good thing here in helping create a distinct shape out from the profile of these leaning twisting trees and it also gets them to jump out of the scene with the stark contrast against the blank canvas sky.
What I like most of this picture is the way the tree lens in and with that long branch reaches down as if reaching for something on the ground. There is enough detail and tonalrange to make it all visually appealing, and as MB1 says seeing this in a large print should be very cool.
    Thanks for sharing here.

    Re: Tree

I find it a little on the busy side too but what can you do about that besides clear cutting or lots of 'shopping? It's a really cool tree and this photo does engage the viewer, so I guess I'm saying I like it despite it's busyness. I also usually like a little more contrast in a B&W but this works in this retro looking style too.

    Re: Tree

It's an interesting tree, but the composition doesn't do much for me i'm afraid. There's way too much going on. Maybe a different or more interesting angle would help. But what makes it a little flat for me is the lack of contrast and range of tones. The mono conversion could do with a tweak. Sorry.
Please have a look and leave a comment or three...
