    The train stopped for a wile in ;Guangzhou;

    I made this picture during my trip in China, The train stopped for a wile in ;Guangzhou; it was late in the evening and dark, so I took a 3200 asa film from Ilford (120) exposed the film on 1600 asa and get this result in the darkroom.

    Re: The train stopped for a wile in ;Guangzhou;

    This is one of the most captivating b/w I've seen for a while. It is both exotic and commonplace at the same time. A scene that is just people buying food while the train has stopped. Yet what they are buying is completly different than what we Westerners would purchase, and in the U.S. the trains are just not the same as elsewhere. It is somewhat reminiscent as well for me of a different time in Europe in the 70's on the locals and the inter country commuters that were still running in places where people shared food that they had just purchased at a station.

    And there is of course the ever present, ever vigilant, all watching People's Army soldier eyeing you and the whole scene.

    The technique you described to capture this one took some thought and work as well and it is good to see the results are so outstanding.

    Really glad to see this one!!

    i really like the expression of the guy at the end as he looks at the cook/chef/person. not sure if that's smoke or a reflection or just a break in the sun, but its almost like there's a light angled directly on that guys face. drew my eyes to that area.

    great shot.

    Very nice, willem. Excellent tonal quality for how it was taken and processed, I think. It gives that old feeling like b&w will so that you are not sure exactly when the picture was taken. And the ever present People's Army soldier keeping an eye on you. I also like the expression caught on the man's face to the far right leaning over the counter. Kind of makes you wonder who, or what, he is.

    Really cool picture...a lot to look at. I found it interesting too that all of the customers are men, and the "clerks" are women...at least, I'm assuming that the 2nd one is a woman, given the ruffles on the apron.

    My favorite part of this is the stack of bowls or cups on the counter...with the conducter and the man on the end's expressions being a close second.

    I like this photograph, the scene has been captured well. The best part to me is the soldier, he appears to be on top of the situation. The contrast is fitting to this scene as well, I like the grain.
