Hi Don! Keeping in mind who is doing the critiquing here, here's what I perceive.
I can see what drew you to take the shot. I'm sure the play of light and the bubbling of the water are really something. But (and again, remember, it's D!) the top of the fountain doesn't seem to dominate or add enough to the rest of the image (or should I say the rest of the image doesn't add to it) to really give it impact. Also, (and it just may be the size limitation here in the forum) I can't see enough definition in the image to really grab me. It's like it's in an in-between stage. Maybe it wouldn't work, but I can't help feeling that either faster or slower on the shutter and you would have a completely different feel in the image. As it stands, it almost looks more like ice, than water in motion. And the busy background seems out of sorts with what you captured.
And did you use flash? It's so brightly lit as compared to the rest of the image. Have you tried a different crop?
That's just my .02, and you know I like weird stuff. But this would have drawn me too!
Thanks for the suggestions. The fountain goes up about 2 stories. I shot it from the second floor of the mall. It only remains up a few seconds. There is a bookstore behind it. I thought it best to get rid of the background details in photoshop.
