    Titanium Penguins

I was down under this machine recovering a dropped bolt and I noticed this lot. I though that looks a bit like a bunch of industrial Penguins. Just used the natural light.

I like it - wouldn't necessarily hang it up on my wall but it has a certain attraction to it. My 'other' hobby is blacksmithing and my first thought was shame they are titanium as a few of those in a high carbon steel would keep me occupied in the forge for a while

Interesting idea about these lokoking like mechanical penguins. I can see that. I would not want to see you get this shot when the grinder was churning. . . .
I'm thinking a bit more contrast would help

Kisu and Gary thanks for commenting, the main reason for this shot was experimenting with depth of field. I was wondering if the focus should have been on either the near or far tines

Interesting shot and subject. The depth of field that you mention I think is spot on subtle but its there.... is a matter of taste, having a stronger blur in the distance will look Ok too.

I like it and can see where your going with this but I would have tried taking it at an angle to make it less parallel with the bottom of the frame.

Hat off to you getting close to this, hope you had the key to the machine.

I like it, but agree about a contrast boost, and think I also would have gone for a more shallow DoF though placement of the point of focus is great where it is

I like it. You don't need to post it, but if you have this in raw you might try tone mapping it. things like this often have beautiful colors that are not as apparent in single exposure photographs.

    Re: Titanium Penguins

I don't see penguins -- but it is a very interesting shot. I really am intrigued with out-of-the-ordinary shots of "ordinary" things. I think your DOF is about right -- enough to tell it's there but not so much you lose the repeat factor. What is this contraption, anyway?

Rob, Rodger,Jet, and Paula, thanks for the input all. For some reason I desaturated this a bit, dont know why now.
Paula this sort of reminded me of a shot I once saw of a colony of penguins jumping off an ice flow.

    Re: Titanium Penguins

I agree that it could use a bit more contrast, but overall I like it. I had to look at if for a moment to see the penguins, but I do see them now. This is a great example as to why I like art/photography so much. Everyone sees images through there eye's, but you never know how one might interpret them. Well done!!

I think the DOF is fine. Sharp on the left side. I also agree a slight contrast boost would help.
