    Tidal Pool

Went for a walk along the rocks after work today. This is a shot I took of a tidal pool as I wanted to try something new. I can't make up my mind on whether I like it or not. My main problem I guess is the green seaweed just looks out of focus since it was all wet and clumped which distracts from the rest of the pic. What do you guys think?

    Re: Tidal Pool

    I do like it.

    Here's what I think:

    - The selected DOF made everything in focus, throwing off the depth perception in a good way.
    - There seems to be several photos here all put into one. Almost like an ecosystem that spreads beyond it's own borders.
    - Seems like an aerial shot of a continent.
    - I'm mostly drawn to the upper, right-hand 3/5ths of the shot. The rocks and surrounding green is good. The far left isn't nearly as interesting to me, probably due to it's lessor illumination and resulting lack of detail. This might call for a crop.

What can I say? I don't see another technical incorrections. It seems very close to being a portfolio shot. Just needs something to put it over the top!

Thank you very much for the input GB Maybe you're right. Maybe it just needs something to pull it all together. Not sure what could be added though. Maybe like a big crab or something? Where's a mermaid when you need one? Oh, I know! What about a lobster trap buoy? Those are all over place. Thanks again GB. I'll give this one some more thought, see what can be done Wish me luck fighting the crowds to get back to this spot...LOL

I can almost smell that. Great tones textures and colors.

I like this type of photo but there is not anything to give any scale to the photograph. I'm thinking a wider view, or many a smaller view would give more sence of scale.

I have to agree with GB1 "- There seems to be several photos here all put into one. Almost like an ecosystem that spreads beyond it's own borders."

Aaron, my first impression without seeing any other comments was, this looks like one of those shots from space. I think everyone else has given you all the advice you need, so I can't find anything to add to them. An interesting shot.

    Re: Tidal Pool

Thanks John and GRF The actual "pool" was only about 3' x 4.5'. I still can't get past the seaweed for some point. This was shot in some really harsh sunlight and it took a fair bit of editing to get it to this point. I don't think the seaweed faired so well in the process. I'll post the original when I get home tonight. Maybe you guys will have some suggestions on different edit possibilities.

For those interested, here's the original shot for comparison. Any ideas on different editing possibilities?

The ocean here is my favorite hang-out.

Where did you take that? The line under your avatar looks like a twist on Maine.
