Tidal Basin, Cherry Blossoms, This Morning.

The sky wasn't that great and I may reduce the contrast a little bit but this is sort of what it looked like this morning (just me and a few hundred other photographers-but that is ok, just wait till the weekend if you want crowds).

The more I look at no.2 the more I like it. At first I thought that it was just to blown out on the left. But I notice that the sun is creating a round hot spot in the water that I feel works. I agree with the use of the curve. It does seem to need a little sharpening. How can you have that many trees with no leaves in the water?

    # 1 kicks butt. The only thing I dont like is the jet trails (damn jets!) There is an unnatural look about it, esp on the sidewalk and in the trees, but it doesn't look bad... Looks royal to me. The water and reflection esp look nice imo.

    # 2 is OK but I find it sort of like a big fancy frame with nothing in it. Where's the subject, one might ask? I guess it would be an idea shot of a person standing there close to the camera, using a fill flash and getting that great backdrop behind them... Or, you could print this puppy out extra large and use it at a studio as a fake background and pose tourists in front of it Might sell a few pix...

In the left third of #2 on the waterline is the Jefferson Memorial which for folks in DC is fairly noticeable although your idea of using it for a studio backdrop is pretty good, I'll have to think about that.

I love the vividness. great reflections. Nice work overall. Its a shame the sky goes totally white at the horizon. D.C. is a fun place to shoot.
I don't want it, I just need it...to breath ...to feel ...to know I'm alive.
