    Thinker

I'm quite happy with this photo and I have used it at my photo classes for the subject "moods". But there is something not right, but I can't figure out what. Got any ideas to improve this photo?

At first glance to me it looks like your foreground is too soft. Perhaps shooting this with a smaller aperture would bring better focal consistency throughout. Also the light seems to have a yellow cast to it, however that could just be the grain of the stone, can't tell.

    Freuzel,

Well, for one, you're clipping off the top of 'its' head... not that conventional compositions are always the way to go, but I think that here, it just doesn't work. The black background is nice, to me anyways. But I dont really care for the dark shadow (?) in the center of the statue - it limits visible information in a picture that is missing a lot of stimulation already, due to its simplicity.

In all, I guess it's alright for what it is, but the few issues I listed here sort of prevent it from being a winner. It's tough to take a photo of a very simple object like this and make it worth a second or third look. I guess that's the challenge.

I'm not gonna add any enlightning posts to this thread, but I think the shadow just doesn't reflect the figure well enough. Infact, it looks totally different than what the figure would cast.

Thank you all! I will try to make it slightly better by using a smaller appenture and get rid of the shadow by the arm. I will show the result soon!
