Re: These Guys Are Really Low

Trying to sneak one through the radar, or should I say two. This is a hoax...Models? I like the atmosphere.
I see no jet blast wake,no sense of motion. Shadow details appear badly underexposed.
So what was the actual shutter speed used to stop the Mach II action.?

These Guys Are Really Low...Great thread!

You got me, Rick........hard to fool the experts!
What this is, is a sculpture at the USAF Museum in Dayton. I cloned out the poles to which they were attached, did a b&w conversion, and added a warming filter.

Very cool i go to that museum alot ,have you seen the f-16 one outside as well ? I think the planes need to be farther away to make it more convincing and some blur too. Also that tree gives it away pretty quick i think. But it is still a cool shot , i think rotating the canvas 90 degrees to the right helps it some.

Themag.........yeah, I've got a few shots of the F-16 sculpture. It's a great museum, but they need to space the displays out a little more. I couldn't get real good shots of a lot of the planes because they were all jammed in together. I suppose that if you've got so many to display, you've got to find room for em somehow.

Thanks, G........I wish I'd been able to think ahead and try to put a little jet blast in there.....

Re: These Guys Are Really Low

Ya they do lol. And they have the presidential ones in that other building that you got to take a bus to get to. The ones outside are better as you can get just them in it.The air show is coming up you can get some in air shots there if you got the cash lol. I got a cool shot from the museum i will post soon for critique.

Re: These Guys Are Really Low

I know what you're saying. I took about 300 pictures at Dayton, and the best ones were the shots of the planes on the tarmac. I wanted to get a real nice, clean shot of the Zero, but the wing of the cargo plane next to it was dominating everything. The same pretty much happened with the Presidential planes. I guess they need another building.....

Wow, big change from original. John,I'm glad you have a sense of humor, for me being no expert and trying to act like one.

 These Guys Are Really Low would be an excellent thread.Think about that...

Hahaha... good thinking. And I was trying to think of cameras that could do faster than 1/10000s...

Great shots, Paul. I wish I had your viewpoint.
Our Air Zoo is no longer doing air shows. Too expensive.

Re: These Guys Are Really Low

A lifetime ago, about 1962,63, I was stationed in France at an airbase named Everue Fawville(sp)
I was on duty as a security guard at an access point accessing the main runway. There was an airshow being presented and the main attraction was an aerobatic team from Beligum. Think Blue Angels or the Thunderbirds. The solo pilot flew his jet so low that I standing on the running board of my patrol vehicle and looking over the roof, could see the pilot sitting in the cockpit. As a point of reference, the perimiter fence stood only 8ft. high with three strands of barbed wire atop it.
    That's flying low!!
