    Texture and Tone....

Been a while since I've come to the dark side. I'm a big boy and can take your C&C. This was just for kicks. Thanks in advance for your looks and comments.

I like the subject Larry, and the dark and light high contrast tones. Texture is there too.
The only thing holding this down for me is what appears to be your shadow at the bottom. You can probably crop up just above it, and a bit from the left if needed but otherwise it is very good.

Larry, I wouldn't exactly call this the dark side.
Like the textures here, and Gary's right, you need to remove your shadow.

Here's a case where I actually think film would be better for this subject. Textures are evident, but the smooth look of digital has given this a slick look whereas a more gritty, contrasty look of, say, Tri-X, would bring out the texture more. That said, this image is pretty well exposed with some detail in the shadow areas. I agree about your shadow at the bottom...cropping it out would be better. :-)

I agree about the textured aesthetic that a nice film grain would bring to this. Can be done effectively to a digital image in PP and we see many digital photogs replicating the look of old film qualities. I also personally think that a slightly warmer tone to this would help with the wood texture as well

    Re: Texture and Tone....

Good valid points by all that reviewed this image. I honestly had not considered the shadow at the bottom, thanks for seeing what the photographer can't. And I agree Charles this same scene on Tri-X would have been much more effective.
