    Texture...

    texture by baldemort,

I loved the texture on the bark of this tree and thought the leaf placed on it contrasts it nicely. There are slight flashes of feint red in the bark which play off the leaf nicely, too. I really like the steely look of the silvery bark and the hard, edgey contrast in it. I processed it to highlight this and to give it a nice rich look. Didn't want the leaf any larger as that type of shot has been done may times before. Thanks for looking.

I love this! If this were my photo I'd more than likely frame it. Great job!

    Welcome to the forum Baldemort.
Good little shot and as you say the textures are very nice but nothing here to lift it above the many similar shots of what is now a pretty worn subject.
It looks oversharpened too but this may be because of the small size posted here.
Looking forward to seeing more of your work.

I have a total lack of respect for anything connected with society, except that which makes the roads safer, the beer stronger, the food cheaper, and the old men and old women warmer in the winter and happier in the summer. Brendan Behan

I think the pattern/texture of the bark is a little unusual - more, as you said, like waves. The leaf is rendered well too. Sure, it may be a well-worked idea, but this has been done pretty well.

What i feel lifts it is the pattern and change in direction of the bark. it moves like a wave as opposed to the usual straight lines etc. I haven't seen one like it, although now that i've said that, someone is most likely going to post a link to about fifty just the same! thanks for the reply and feedback.

ps there was next to no sharpening at all on the shot as the bark is rough enough anyway, but it linked from flickr, and my shots always seem more contrasty and sharp there for some reason...

Thanks for the reply, Mike. As you say, it's been done so many times before, and I'm reall glad that you found it a good shot, as it's so easy for this type of shot to be a cliche.
